What to Do Before You're Two: Immunize
Each year, children who are not fully immunized become sick. You can protect your children by taking them to a doctor or a clinic for their shots. Babies need seven different kinds of shots before they are 2 years old. Some of the shots are given a few times. This will take about 5 visits to the doctor. Click here for the
Immunization Schedule
.
Don't miss the chance to protect your baby
Don't wait until your baby gets sick. Take the baby to a doctor or clinic for shots. Start when your baby is 2 months old.
At each visit, discuss immunization with your doctor or other health care provider. Ask whether your baby is up to date on his or her shots.
You will be given a card that lists the shots your baby gets. Keep this record in a safe place. Bring it with you every time you take your baby to the doctor.
Ask the doctor when to come again for your baby's shots. Write it down. Make an appointment.
If you do not have a doctor, call the Gateway Health Plan
®
Member Services Department at 1-800-392-1147.
If your baby misses some shots, it may be possible to catch up. But if you wait too long, the protection will not be as strong.
If you need help making an appoinment or help with transportation, call EPSDT Outreach Unit at 1-800-392-1146, press 4.
