Are you helping a Gateway family member or friend with a medical condition that is more than they can manage? Are you confused about how to help them? We hope you find these tips useful to help you provide good care and advice. Think about these ways that the person you are caring for may need help. Sometimes, people do not want to ask for help, but may need it. 1) Is there a health problem that this person does not understand? Do they know why they are ordered certain medicine and the importance of taking it the way it is ordered? Are these things that you don’t understand either and feel you need help? 2) Does this person understand their medical benefits or need help to manage them? 3) Is help needed to manage finances? 4) Are there safety issues around the home? 5) Is transportation a problem? 6) Is the individual able to care for themselves? Can they bathe, dress and go to the bathroom by themselves? Are they able to get groceries and prepare meals for themselves?
