Important Gateway Health Plan® Prescriber Notice: NPI Prescriber Number Required for Pharmacy Claims Processing

Dear Provider:

Please be advised that effective September 8, 2010, Gateway Health Plan® will only accept a valid National Provider Identification (NPI) number for prescriptions processed for Gateway Health Plan® members. This action is in accordance to The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) statue found in Section 6401 (b)(ii)(7)(B) of HR 3590.

Pharmacies will not be permitted to submit your state license number or any other identification number in place of your NPI number.

To prevent any lapse in our member’s care, we request that you include your NPI number on Gateway Health Plan® prescriptions or be able to provide this number if you receive an inquiry from a pharmacy.
