PITTSBURGH – Sept. 21, 2020 – Gateway Health, LLC (“Gateway Health”), whose subsidiary, Gateway Health Plan, Inc. is a leading managed care organization dedicated to caring for the “total health” of its members, today announced that Tony Solem has joined the organization as Vice President, Medicaid and HealthChoices Executive Director.

In his new role, Tony will lead the administration and day-to-day management of the HealthChoices Agreement with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Tony will also serve as the profit and loss (P and L) manager for Gateway Health’s Medicaid line of business.

Before joining Gateway Health, Tony served as Chief Executive Officer of Aetna Better Health of Ohio where he led a successful overhaul of the Ohio Medicaid plan. At Aetna, he was responsible for improving relationships and optimizing operational processes. He boosted financial performance while working to support a more collaborative and productive work culture. This approach ultimately resulted in his plan reaching the top financial ranking in the Aetna Medicaid segment by 2018.

Prior to Aetna, Tony held several state executive roles with large health plans focused on government programs. This includes Santa Clara Family Health Plan, where, as the Chief Medicare Officer, he supported programs impacting dual-eligible plans in California. He also spent time in the western region of United Healthcare’s organization, where he helped lead the launch of Medicare products in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

“Tony will be a great asset to our organization as he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that will support our growing Medicaid membership base,” said Brian Dobbins, Senior Vice President of Medicare and Medicaid Markets at Gateway Health. “His efforts will deliver a more caring approach to healthcare and further strengthen our mission to care for the whole person in communities that need it most.”
