Gateway Health Plan, Inc. (“Gateway”) uses National Imaging Associates, Inc. (“NIA”) to review orders for imaging services. NIA has had a security event involving Gateway member data. The data in Gateway’s systems was not affected in any way.

What Happened?

On April 11, 2020, NIA discovered a security event involving an unauthorized third party who hacked NIA’s systems. NIA immediately began an investigation of the event and took steps to lock down its systems. NIA used a team of experts to find out if Gateway member data was viewed. During the investigation, NIA’s experts found that its employees’ emails had been hacked. Their experts did not find proof that Gateway member data was viewed or misused.

NIA reported the event to law enforcement. NIA found that the event stemmed from a phishing attack. Also, NIA believes that the purpose of the hacking was for further email spoofing. On May 1, 2020, NIA found that some Gateway members were affected by this hacking.

What Data Was Involved?

The data that may have been involved included some member names and one or more of the following: dates of birth, Gateway ID numbers, treatment information, and payment and health plan information. The emails did not contain any Social Security numbers or banking information.

What Are Gateway and NIA Doing?

Upon discovery of the event, NIA immediately took steps to lock down its systems. NIA used a team of experts to find out of Gateway member data was viewed and has taken extra steps to improve its security to protect against similar events in the future. NIA is also working with law enforcement.

While Gateway has no proof that the data has been misused, we are offering twelve (12) months of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection to potentially affected members. Details will be included in the letters sent to potentially affected members.
